"For me, the club and the supporters, this is the biggest match of the season! The match starts a week early and if you head out into the streets people don't talk to you about the other games you've already played or won, only this one! It's the derby and it's good for football."

Lucho says he is happy to be at the club, a move that he saw a big step in his career and in line with his ambitions.

"I always heard talk of Marseille being a huge club and I made no mistake in coming here. It's not just about reputation at this club – there is a driving will to win the league, to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. These are very real things. The coach is always encouraging our ambitions."

Lucho admits he is not yet performing to his potential but knows that with his injury troubles behind him, things are on the up and up and that the best is just around the corner.

"The turning point can come at any time. One day, you wake up and everything's different. You can pull off anything – moves, passes. Inspiration is not a rational thing. One day you can be brilliant and the next, you won't touch a ball. The important thing is that you give it your all. When I take to the field, I always know I'm going to give absolutely everything I've got, down to my last drop of sweat."

Η συνεργασία του Χατέμ Μπεν Αρφά με τον Ντιντιέ Ντεσάμπ δεν υπήρξε ποτέ αγαστή. Το τελευταίο επεισόδιο στη σχέση των δύο ανδρών ήταν γεμάτο ένταση και όπως αναφέρει ο ραδιοφωνικός σταθμός “Europe 1” ο νεαρός επιθετικός καταφέρθηκε με βαριές κουβέντες κατά του προπονητή του.

O 22χρονος παίκτης κατηγόρησε τον Ντεσάμπ ότι με τη συμπεριφορά του: «Μου σπάει τ....», αναφερόμενος στον περιορισμένο χρόνο συμμετοχής που έχει στην ομάδα.

Η απάντηση του έμπειρου τεχνικού ήρθε μέσω της «L’ Equipe» στην οποία δήλωσε: «Μπορούσα να βοηθήσω, μπορώ να βοηθήσω, αλλά αυτός είναι που κρατά το κλειδί. Γνωρίζω πως σε κάθε στιγμή μπορεί να ξεπεράσει τέσσερις αντιπάλους και να γίνει αποφασιστικός, αλλά το ποδόσφαιρο δεν είναι γι’ αυτό. Υπάρχουν και άλλες απαιτήσεις, μαζί με την μπάλα και χωρίς αυτή. Έχει ταλέντο, αλλά το εκφράζει σπάνια”.

Στο πλευρό του Ντεσάμπ είναι και ο αθλητικός διευθυντής της Μαρσέιγ Ζοσέ Ανιγκό, αφού δεν είναι λίγες οι περιπτώσεις που ο Μπεν Αρφά έχει προκαλέσει με τις ενέργειες του.

O Γάλλος μεσοεπιθετικός αποτέλεσε μεγάλη επένδυση για το σύλλογο, όταν αποκτήθηκε το 2008 από τη Λιόν, έναντι 12.000.000 ευρώ. Ποτέ όμως δεν μπόρεσε να κερδίσει την εμπιστοσύνη, τότε του προηγούμενου προπονητή Έρικ Γκέρετς, όσο και του Ντιντιέ Ντεσάμπ.
