Download count not going up?

Hi, my girlfriend has just got a second hand s500i with a 02 pay&go sim in it, anyway she is going to get rid of the 02 sim for a vodafone one. The problem is that I put some games on her phone I think theres about 70 games all together and it saved them to the 1gb memory stick, well now the phone keeps wanting to connect to the internet all the time even when on charge. We did take the memory stick out and tried it without it but it still does the same we cant work it out could it need updating? please can anyone help thanks
