I'm not sure if this problem is specific to the Southeast Asian region only or the whole world or if this applies to other Android phones made by other manufacturers, but i'm putting out a warning to those who have not yet upgraded their stock Gingerbread OS firmware with the official update released by Samsung via its Kies software.

It seems the latest firmware update from Samsung breaks the root privileges of Android phones and there is no method currently available (but i hope i'm wrong) to be able to root phones updated with this firmware. I've tried all versions of zergrush, SOC, and z4 to no avail.

Update:

A rooting method is available but can only be done by loading the rooting package in the SD card, booting the phone in "recovery mode", and applying the package through there.
