AFAIK, while it is possible to get infected by downloading APKs from dubious websites, there is no real Android virus threat.

In fact, Chis DiBona, Open Source Programs Manager at Google, asserts that companies/people trying to sell us antivirus apps for Android are scammers and charlatans.

first of all Android is based on Linux kernel so it is itself Secure enough.
All the anti-virus apps nothing but an advertising medium. Just use the apps from the Google Play Store. They are legitimate and safe. No need to install an antivirus..Thats it.

I have installed avast, it blocks ads of your service provider when you mistakenly clicks one of them while surfing before you get charged.

I've been using Android base Smart Phones for almost 2 years..
I never use any antivirus for android..
I have tried many apps from market and also from 'unknown source' but my android phone is still safe without any anti virus installed..
maybe one day when 'real' virus start to infect android then I'll use android antivirus..
