Android. Much more choice in hardware than with Apple.
You can have your touchscreen only phone, and I can have a phone with a keyboard that I require. We can run the same applications on Android.

It depends on what you are looking for in a phone. The Android os is more open and you have more choice in hardware but the iPhone has a way more polished os, superior apps and a really nice camera app.
I prefer the iPhone but at the moment I'm using a Nexus One and not hating it.

I would pick the droid over i-phone. The reason is Apple has their apps and music on lockdown. Ex, is try and install a P2P Turrent app on the i-pod or the i-phone. I also agree with mth785, the i-phone has a very smooth OS system.

I'd say android there's too many things you can do to your droid vs apple having everything on lock! Seems sucky...the phone is sweet but apple is regulating every part of it!
