I wounder, how close are we to the advanced technology of Ster Trek? Are we close to it or far from it?Just go to the forum and let's discus!
I think that we are preaty close,we have very advanced medicene, advanced security systems, more and more advanced spaseships...but not as much as advanced in ecological development, political order...
Now you tell me what do you think!?

Star Trek is a utopical future, so there is a lot of things that never happen althought all the technologies appears.

Political: Our world is becoming global, but the idea about there will be an only world country is improbable. There are too much economics and ethnics interests.

Technologies: Star Trek show a lot of Sci-Fi. Some things are based in real science, but others canīt be it because there are a lot of restrictions in the physics laws (for example, in the General Theory of Relativity) that can explain very good the reality so far. (other example is that the information canīt travel faster than light speed).

Itīs true that our technologies are developing very fast, and a lot of instruments (like celular phones) would had been like the magic at other centuries. But all our technologies have a scientific base. In Star Trek is not necesary this premise (itīs more important the script than the real science).

Well, it's true that Teletransport, or Warp Travel would be have any opportunity. In a beyond future. :p

Star Trek is a philosophical and action serie (my favourite Sci-Fi). Althought some things can be appear in the future, their objetive is not to predict it.

star trek tech is much too advanced.... its difficult enough for humans to reach the moon..leave alone travelling galaxys... i say it'll take another century befor we get ther....

Well I am a bit of a realist so I will say that we are nowhere near Star Trek technology. I will explain this with just one topic, "Faster Than Light Travel". *geek*

Einstein basically said that the speed limit of the universe is the speed of light, nothing can travel faster than light. Star Trek depicts ship traveling to nearby stars in days, or even hours. The nearest star, Alpha Centauri, is 4.37 light years away. Even if we could travel at the speed of light, it would take 4.37 years to get there which is impossible to sustain human life that long away from Earth's resources.

Maybe within the next 50 years we will visit Jupiter, or Saturn, but not much else.

I've been reading lately about how close are we to Star Trek tech. Here are the statistics:

Transporter technology:
Scientist know how 70% of the transporter technology works but there are only theories about how to build one.

Warp & Impulse drives
Well, knowing Warp 1 or higher are speeds higher then the speed of light we know that we will have experimental warp 1 in aproximatly 70 years. We are far from the impulse drive too.If thrusters like those in Star Trek will be used in 20 years from now the inpulse will be used in 80 years.

Replicator system
The only thing we know about how the replicator system works is that it convertes energy into matter but we have know idea how to do that. So,we're far from that too.

Deflector shields
Well, knowing that the deflector shields are powered by the ships's deflector,we are far from that type of shields aswell because we have no idea on how to build or use one,or what it specificly does.

Forcefields
Well, forcefields is the Star Trek technology we are closest to.Scientists have a good theory and are verry close to creating one.I guess I will have one around my bed in 10 years

Reply to Lancaster1983's post:
In Einstein's time, there weren't so advanced technologies or any theories for speeds faster than light. In 2124 Star Trek time the U.S.S Enterprise was launched whith an experimental warp 5 drive.250 years latter there were ships that can exeed Transwarp (or wap 10).In any Star Trek series there wasn't a ship with light speed that can travel 4 ligh years in a few hours - all the ships that were seen to travel 4 light in a few hours had a maximum speed of warp 5-6-7-8-9.98,which are 5/6/7/8/9.98 times faster then the speed of light. In the early 25th centure in Star Trek they can travel faster then 10 times the speed of light, while in real time by then we might be able to travel from one galaxy to another in a metter of seconds...
