i think your HD its ok...mybe u need to defrag it...

if problem always come again... mmmmm....maybe to much instal software program...uninstall it ....

1. check your task manager (ALT+CTRL+DEL) >>>for normal and no application running PF USAGE must under 200 mb. and CPU usage under 4%

2. check system configuration utility (STAR MENU > RUN > MSCONFIG) on service tab, disable program if u don't use it , and same on startup tab

3. restart PC....will go FASTTTTTTTTTTTTT

wel solution for every computer is to format it from the roots ...
Make DM or EZ format ..I hope this will help ..

I had that problem only with Xp 2 , but with Vista it doesn't take this much of time .
and the solution of formating Dm , helped me , now it takes 4 lines to start windows and my hard disk is 160 G and it is 80 % full .

vista emulates a 32 os on a 64 bit core so it is slower than it could be. when most of the programs become 64 bit then it will speed up tremendously. but defragging sounds like the best solution yet. (In my humble opinion )

perhaps there maybe a virus in the system volume information folder, it cannot be removed easily
try kaspersky antivirus

Check the DMA settings of your hard drive controller. Make sure it is enabled in the BIOS and that Windows correctly detects it.

As already suggested, defragging may help but note that Windows Vista really takes longer to start up on a typical machine. If your computer has only 2GB of system memory, I would advise that you stick to Windows XP or Vista 32-bit version.
