i recently went to the beach and had the phone in my pocket, which got a little bit soaked. i completely forgot the phone was in my pocket. i made the mistake of trying to power it on and only the lights on the side turn on and a little vibration.

i took off the sim, battery cover and battery and blow dried it. anything else i can do other than wait? it's been a day now..

oh, oh... that happened to me several times already (ipod + bathtub). but turning on a wet - even semi wet - device can damage internal circuit boards, for now, if you have medicine bottles, try to collect as many silica gel packets - those little pillows of beads in the bottles, also sometimes on shoe boxes, bags and so on - and put the phone in an box - paper would be nice - together with the silica gel (you can also use rice, but there's a shortage of that right now ) keep the device in the box for about two days then you can turn it on, if the pone still doesn't power up, chances are the circuit boards are fried - then you'll need to take the phone for service, and depends on your phone, that could be expensive.

just remember that if there be a next time, don't power up a wet/soaked device, instead take out the battery, sim card, memory card and any other removable parts (stylus, cover panels ect.) DO NOT use a hair dryer! the heat will only warp the plastic circuit boards and will just evaporate the water, and that will turn metal parts to rust and plastic parts to warp and/or become brittle. just let the water drip out a bit then do the box and the silica gel thing (see above).

hope this helps! and be careful next time...

the liquid may dry up but it may cause corrosion after some time... the phone may work but will give you other different problems along the way.

better have it checked with an authorized service center rather than wait.. the service center might help you do the clean up or even for the repair.

I probably wouldn't take it back to the shop, as they most likely have ways of telling if it's been water damaged.

Hm, looks like I'm gonna have to stock up on silica gel.

You're in the US as far as your profile says, so being on a w580, you're on the AT&T carrier, as long as you haven't unlocked/debranded your phone.

If you are still on AT&T, and your warantee is still valid, or you have phone insurance: tell them you dropped your phone into the toilet and that it no longer turns on. If you have unlocked/debranded, it may be a good thing that it doesn't turn on, if you want to get a new phone. Let them send you a new w580, and then re-flash.

You WILL need a new SIM and memory stick, I'm sorry.

Next time, please remember these two things: salt water + circuit boards = corrosion. direct, dry heat + circuit boards = warping. Next time, call your service provider directly.
