Can anyone tell me how to download the ringtone if I send it to my phone? I wasn't able to save it in my ringtones folder on Itunes so that I could sync it, but when I get the text it just takes me to the web page and plays the tone but doesn't give me an option to do anything else.

use the following hope it help u

iFuntastic (Mac): Same as the SSH/File Transfer option. Just drag them into the correct /Library/Ringtones folder. [iFuntastic]

Sendsong: Allows you to pick any song from your iPod and move it into the Ringtones section. Install this with AppTapp.

iTunes Music Store: You can manually place AAC files into the correct iTunes Ringtones folder as long as it has the right file extension. Works with purchased iTunes songs or songs you?ve converted to AAC format.

Try this.
I have Itunes importing songs and keeping the folders organized.
This is under "Edit"/"Preferences"/Advanced"

1. Download the ringtone or song, it's in mp3 format.
1. Import song to itunes.
2. Highlight the mp3 and right click.
3. Convert selection to AAC.
4. Highlight your new file, make sure it's the "AAC" one.
5. Now right click and delete.
6. 1st pop-up window. "remove from Itunes library" Click "remove"
7. 2nd pop-up window. "remove from Itunes folder" Click "keep file"
8. Go to your Itunes folder and find your AAC file.
9. Rename your file. Example: ringtone.aac to ringtone.M4r <---- make sure the extension is like this.
(for some reason for me the ringtone never shows up if the extension is different.
10. Now double click on your file and Itunes will import it.
11. Select your ringtone(s) and sync.

I have FW, 1.1.4 with Itunes v. 7.6.0.29

When you download ringtones from here they are basic mp3 files. example: Boss_Alert.mp3

When you import a file like this itunes will create a folder "Unknown Artist"

In my computer the setup is as follows:
My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Unknown Artist\Boss_alert.mp3
or C:\Documents and Settings\Izzy29\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Unknown Artist\Boss_Alert.mp3

Now back in itunes after converting to an AAC file the new file will appear in this same folder.
Make sure to delete (in Itunes) but choose to keep the file on your computer.
Find your new aac file and rename the extension. example: Boss_Alert.mp3 to Boss_Alert.M4r
Open file with Itunes and it will import it to your "ringtone" folder.
And Sync.

Hope this help. I'll check back here in 24 hours.

I just tried the tip, same that I have heard from other sites and it hasnt worked for me yet. I have tried it many times, but Apple is getting smart it seems and only letting you make ringtones if you spent the whole $2.98 for there garbage.

@ shoman2

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you.

Can you give some info as to the firmware on your phone and Itunes version that you are running?

I'm not claiming to be some expert I am just trying to figure out why it didn't work for you. And yet as of today, still works for me as I have described.

I bought my phone back in March. It came with FW 1.1.4. I used ziphone ( yes, I know) but I've had no problems at all. Everything worked from the beginning and I didn't have to run any patches. What is done, is done. Let's move on.

I'm running Itunes v.7.6.0.29, I don't think it's current. But I don't feel the need to add small updates. So, I haven't updated.

Did you atleast get to step #09? (from the second reply I made)

I have seen some other instructions but I've noticed that they say rename file as ".M4R" or ".m4r" this is where things did not work for me. I found that only renaming the file with ".M4r"(uppercase "M" and lowercase "r"), did the file show up in Itunes as a ringtone. I have seen other sites saying not to have too lengthy of a file name and make the file name simple. But I have had no problems with either. Only when it came down to the extension were there problems. Also, If you don't see the file extension (.m4a or .m4r) then (in explorer) you need to click on Tools/Folder Options/View. Scroll down and make sure you have un-checked the box to "Hide extentions for known file types".
And Click "ok".

I have 9 total ringtones in Itunes and I've synced 6 of those to my phone. And they all work.

At what step did things go wrong for you?

I'll check back here again.

I tried the "M" tip, and I am noticing that after I rename and add back to Itunes, it automatically renames it to m4a, thus preventing me from adding it to the ringtones section. Damn Apple all to hell!!!!

BTW: We might have different versions, mine only gives me 1 prompt after deleting," Do you want to move the selected song to the recycle bin, or keep it in the itunes music folder." so i always choose to keep it, since i only have that 1 option.
