for me asia could be the leader 10 years from now...economic and political signs are already showing power shifts from west to east..with japan the traditional power and the world's 2nd largest economy, china and india closing behind and poses as the next superpowers...southeast asia forming a union like the EU and the new economic tigers>> south korea, taiwan, singapore and malaysia...but asia as well has one of the higest numbers of poor after africa, will these be a hindrance???with the current crisis in food especially rice, asia's staple food and energy crisis for oil with larger consumptions predicted to the developing asia including india and china..can asia cope with these problems or asia will simply lead the world from the current crisis????

i think they can right now the whole world see china as a new economic leader and yet to india. a new word has been established and it's "ChinDia". china's economic per formance since 1978 has been impressive and it could, according to certain measurements, overtake the United States as the world's largest economy in the next 10 years.

nice topic Felinine
perhaps the current situation now a days are bigger and bigger problems in terms of corruption and lack of educations not to mentioned the current oil crises through out the world.... its a battle of who are the most rich country in termsof economics. well, according to statistics china is no. 1 in asia next is japan followed by sokor and india.. worst country in terms of corruption in asia is philippines.. so for me, its a long long way to go before asia can lead the whole world, if some of asian countries can not control corruption and puberty so how can the asia defeat EU and USA i dont know....

I think China is getting ready to lead the world and will be the most powerful country in the world within five years. In a sharp turnaround from eight years ago, Americans no longer believe the United States is the world's leading economic power. They are now more likely to bestow that mantle on China.

asia had always led the world... since ancient times, asia or the east is primarily more advanced than the west... babylon, india, china, japan and the rest.... the cradle of civilization started at asia.

Civilization started in Africa not Asia. I don't see Asia creating something like the EU, many of the countries don't like each other. I don't see North Korea and South Korea getting along or Tiawan and China or Japan and China for that matter.

10 YEARS seems 2 optimistic.....u have to take into consideration that in ost of these asian countries the development is one sided...many a times growth in only one sector tends to hide the underbelly of poverty at the grass root level....wen u talk to economic power yu have to make sure that even the most poorest of farmer in the most rural areas has access to basic services like clean water electrcity and proper medcal health. While India may boast of being a medical tourist spot ull be shocked to see ordinary indians withou health insurance or teh deplorable condition of stae health machinery. China`s now famous death ridden track record of its mines safet is anoder eye opener.
economic power should usher in changes at all levels of life in these countries.

also u cannot ignore that the level of corruption is quite widespread in thse parts of the world...u sanction some money for say road development....a big % goes to some corrupt ppl and at the end of the day u have a road built only to last till the next rains.

Yes change will come..But it takes time... Asia has te potential or anyother country/region/sb continet. GIVEN the time needed to change attitudes

I think they are leading it already. Just think: There are really many people over there, they build 90% of the things that you buy (clothes, electronics, pc's, mobile phones, etc.) I think they deserve tolead the world, because they rule it! How would it be if they stopped exporting things? For the general economy of the continent, I think they have a really big thing to say about the progress of the planet. That is why I think they lead & rule the world.

Asia is never gonna be ready to lead the world.
The leaders of the countries in Asia can't even lead their own people, they suffer in all kids of ways possible.

SinZ07: The people who build these things, are poor as hell, they get to work under circumstances witch we could only see in nightmares.
Their leaders get all the money and their people die in poverty.
Many asian citizens are slaves!

If Asia stopped exporting so many stupid things the world would be a whole lot better.
Your phones wouldn't break so easily, your cars wouldn't break so easily, nothing would break so easily, quality would rise and so would your life with it.
In my opinion we should declare war on China, crush them, free their people, fix their true economy(The peoples, NOT the governments), spend more money on it's citizens, educate them on how to really put things together, put someone from an western country to lead them as it's proven that the asian people are not mature enough to lead.
They get greedy, and I mean very greedy, not American Government greedy but worse, far worse including murdering thousand of innocent people just because they say what's on their mind.
Maybe in 200-300 years of education from the western world.
