Its not often i see a post actually worth reading but this post by "kilted stud" is spot on !
Some of the posts from members wanting to be site guards will be for their own selfish reasons or just so they can get a little badge with a new little nickname attached to what ever they have already !
Certain problem areas have grown and they have done so for one reason and one reason only.... because Zedge didnt grab the bull by the horns themselves and deal with it the way they stated they would.
So if you think newly appointed "site gaurds" is the answer when some dont even know what to actually do then problem areas will escalate and drive members away out of sheer frustration or boredom !

it's all very well trying to make zedge a better place but i think this latest move is a joke...between admin..mods..and now site guards....i think this can only be bad for zedge.....gone is the freedom of speach and posting topics and pictures that people can share enjoy and laugh at.... it's all heading for a politically correct website where you won't be able to have a laugh and joke with your friends. will every word, phrase, joke, picture be scrutinised by some specky spotty little jobsworth who only leaves his bedroom to sign on...you have taken on your volunteers who i'm not going to criticise as they genuinely believe they can make a difference but the problems is...nobody seams to know what there supposed to do...it's laughable........it looks to me like there's more chiefs than indians....

I agree with both of you, its a gimmick , and all for a little badge, As i said in a earlier post, it is up to everyone to report material that they find offensive, Most of these new SiteGuards do not understand what is required of them now, and besides, were we not all reporting these items before???

I've said it before and I will say it again. Zedge is a community, and a very fast growing one at that. I personally think "Site Guards" are a good idea, they will help take the "load off" Mods and the Admin. To answer a few questions I've seen in this topic:

1. I believe the duties of the Site Guards was spelled out very clearly, so a generalization that "new SiteGuards do not understand what is required of them" is false. It is very clear what is expected of them and what is not.
2. Yes everyone is asked to help keep Zedge "clean" however with 9 million members, I'd hazard a guess that less then 1% actually report anything unless it personally affects them (like a rude guestbook posting). Site Guards have actually asked for the added responsibilities thus creating a "work force" that is expected to do thier duty so to speak.
3. I would agree that many would just want the Badge and not do the "work", again I would have to guess that these members would be "weeded" out in time.
4. I believe Zedge always "grabs the bulls by the horns". As with any community there is and always will be "trouble makers"... dealing with them and the other issues that face Zedge on an hourly bases is very time consuming. Everyones issue is important, but not everyones issue will be solved the way that individule would like it to be all the time. Thats just the way it goes.
5. As far as the " freedom of speech and posting topics and pictures that people can share enjoy and laugh at", well.. lets face it, not everyone has the same sense of humor or taste in pictures, jokes, etc. So when a problem develops it is handled in the best interest of the Zedge Site, the Admins make every effort to be fair in all aspects, but in the end the best interest of the Zedge Site is considered first and foremost. Every user of Zedge is a guest of the Zedge Site, and must accept, understand and post, upload and contribute following those rules.
6. People seem to think that the SIte Guards have some sort of end all decision in the content on Zedge, they dont. Only the Admin team has the ability to actually remove anything reported by the Site Guards.

I hope this clears up some of the issues on Site Guards.

Hey guys...

We certainly appreciate all the hard work and effort you all put in now trying to keep Zedge as family friendly as possible for such a large site. It is really difficulto make sure all the bad content is removed as quickly as humanly possible which is why we wanted to implement this new idea to help us all enjoy a friendlier environment.

Not sure why all the negativity from the "negative crew" (you know who I mean, the guys who have been here for ever, will never leave, but love to bash the good work we are doing to make Zedge the #1 site out there) but hey we take the vast good with the minuscule bad and we deal with it. I wonder if negativity could be a bannable offense, perhaps we should have a vote on that some time soon....

So that said we are still looking for some more "Site Guards" to help us keep Zedge even cleaner than it is now. Also, you must have a "clean Zedge record" in order to be considered.
Site Guards will not be able to delete anything or control what gets deleted. SG's who continue to report incorrect content will not be SG's for very long.
ADMIN will always have the final say in what gets removed from the site.

.....and thanks Bupahs for that well written explanation.

J
