There's no free way, take it to an unlocking specialist.

Shouldn't be any more than £10 - £15.

Flashing your phone will not unlock it. They are two completely different chips.

Hey, I managed to flash my phone and unlock/debrand it no problem whatsoever. It's a matter of replacing the AT&T (or in your case O2) firmware with generic.

I used XS++, a Generic Main, a European FS, and a generic European Custpack. Then again, I'm using a w580i, so it may be different. Check out online how to replace your specific phone's firmware.

Most programs like XS++ will debrand and unlock at the same time. The official Sony Ericsson flash system will only flash without unlocking. Hope this clear things up
