imtoo REALLY WORKS NO JOKE, WORTH IT!!!*****you can have them store on your memory card and you can still apply them,

length does not seem to be an issue, but the mp3 i make into ringtones are usally no more then 60 sec, anyways....

If you have any questions or need help figuring it out.. let me know ill get back to you as soon as i can...

* i am working on step by step insrtuctions ( alittle more dtailed) and will post it as soon as i can, i got my v9 2 days ago, and worked no stop trying all the tricks, i was about to give up when i found this trick!!!

ONCE YOU SEE HOW EASY IT IS TO GET AROUND THE CARRIER BLOCKS, YOU WONT BELIVE IT'S THAT SIMPLE....

Making Ringtones for RAZR2 V9

-Use MPT, or other mp3 ringtone makers to crop/ make song clips, and save to computer

STEP 1

Download , into converter
http://www.imtoo.com/audio-encoder.html

*this is a trail program that will only encode 2 songs per session, ( when you encode it will ask for liscence press cancel) songs will encode, even though it only allows 2 songs per session if you end/exit program the re open it starts fresh and you will get another 2. And so on….

-Drag/Drop mp3 file

Go to Setting, set as follows

-Bitrate 64 kbites/s
-Profile Low Complexity
-Bandwidth (Hz) 16 000

*do not check any of the boxes*

ADTS MPEG-4 (should be Checked)

OutPut ACC File Format MPEG4*.m4a)

-click apply then okay ( you should only have to set these once )
-chose a file in witch to save converted files in (output )

*I HAVE NOT CHOSEN FULL LENGTH SONGS, OR TRIED TO CONVERT THEM TO RING TONES, I USED mpt TO CROP AND MAKE MP3 CLIPS, OR OTHER MP3 CROPING SOFTWARE, AND SAVE TO A FILE OF YOUR CHOICE, I FOUND IT EASIER TO USE THE SAME FILE, TO SAVE THE MP3 AND TO SAVE THE CONVETED MP4, THAT WAY YOU HAVE BOTH THE MP3 AND MP4 IN ONE.*

-press encode, songs are then completed, they will be saved in the output folder you specified.

Either, transfer the newly converted mp4’s to your phone through, the micro sd card, or use Moto phone tools, and use file transfer. Make sure you save into the MUSIC Folder.

It does not matter is you save it to the memory card or to the phone, it will let you apply as ringtone either ways.

-use media finder, and select RINGTONES, go into music and you will find them

*IF YOU NEED MORE HELP FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME,

The reason you cant use mp3 as ringtone is because they need to be converted into mp4 (m4a) format, with the settings i have posted above, using imtoo converted. The phone Carriers have blocked out the use of mp3 as ringtones due to thier copy rights. If you follow the steps in my above post to convert these mp3 files into MP4 then your phone will recongnize them, and allow you to save them into your music file. If you then go into your RINGTONES - MUSIC, you will then see that those files you converted are in there and will now have the option to apply as RINGtone. iT IS ALOT SIMPLER THEN IT LOOKS, BUT MY ABOVE POST IS A STEP BUY STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO DO THIS, dOWNLOAD THIS POROGRAM
http://www.imtoo.com/audio-encoder.html
ONCE YOU GET THE HANG OF IT YOU'LL BE MAKING RINGTONES IN AS LITTLE A 3MINS FOR EACH.
I HAVE NOT TRRIED FULL LENGTH SONGS, I USE CLIPS THAT ARE USALLY NO MORE THE 60 SECS, BUT SO FAR, LENGTH DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE...

I have the razr2 v9m from Sprint. This is how I made mp3 clips from here as ringtones:

1) Find a tone from here you like, click download, click save to pc (i save right to desktop for convenience and later delete it)

** BEFORE you save the file, change the last 3 letters of the name from ".mp3" to ".qcp"

** in the next drop down box (at least in Vista) change the format from "MP3" to "all files"

NOW SAVE the file to desktop. This will make a white icon with the file name and your computer will not recognize the type but this is ok .

Now with your memory card in your computer click on the icon and "send to removable media ( eg: xxx) where your card is. This will place it on your card but not in a designated "MP3" format.

The ringtone will now be on your chip and in your external memory , Place the chip back in your in phone. and using file manager move the file to "in phone memory and to "MMC"

You can now assign it as a ringtone because your cirumvented the block on assigning "mp3" format files as ringtones.

delete the icon from your destop of your pc

Dont know if this will work with all Razr2's but it will work w/the sprint version.

Hey
just figured I'd let you all know that you can convert mp3 to mp4 using iTunes. Just right click and convert to AAC. I just did it and the file is working as a ring tone on my Rogers Wireless V9 at 224kb file size.
Cheers

Hi guys

I just can?t help to put my 2 fingers here
I had the same problem not being able to set music as a ring tone. I was trying all the remedies that are posted here and elsewhere. Nothing worked. Eventually I found the simple solution. What makes it unworkable is the file size. Cannot be more than 300kb.
Crop it by editing in let?s say Motorola Phone Tool (MPT), upload it using the same MPT and file becomes ?Applyable?. Very simple. Took me couple of hours to figure it out.

One more thing. If you want to transfer music to your Razr2, the bit rate cannot be more than 192kbps otherwise it won?t be compatible.

Does anyone know why there are so many ringtone files for the motorola razr2 v9 over 300kbs when you the phone cannot use a song file greater than 300kb in size for an alert?
