We dont contact nokia but the service provider
i informed orange about the theft they disabled my sim and gave me a new sim with the same number
had i lodged a police case i would have got the insurance money

Well the insurance thing is quite tricky i am a banking and insuance student and hust to let u know (if u dont know) if u take out a theft insurance and u misplace u r mobile then u wont be eligible to make the claim, and vice versa and thefy means th person should steal the phone phsically from u. u can take comprhensive insurance policy but that means more premium. i hope the moderator makes the reply sticky so that other users get aware about the insurance problem, currently i think no one has addressed this problem

easier said than done.

when i lost my fone and wanted to lodge an FIR, i was given the royal run-around.

orange treated me like a pariah coz i was on prepaid, so i switched to billing. i now keep my IMEI with me in case i ever have to track the fone in the event of it getting misplaced

Respected moderator, u r probably right the insurance rules differ from reigon to reigon,in insurance business many principles are globally laid down, but i am not 100 % sure but this section is useful for indian users and i am verysure abt the insurance practice in india.
and what point did u not understand i will be glad to explain it to u more clearly
