It's the other way around. S40's are non-OS phones (virus are not a problem with this series) while S60's (including S80 and S90) are symbian-based.

Series40 Phone can read jar..but the jar file in Series40 phone have very limited access to the phone. Unlike series60 where a program can modify the way your phone function.

I think .jar file is very safe. it can't be infected by any virus. but others apps like .sis files could be infected by viruses.
