For Gods sake dont go for Dell, cos with the wave of exploding lappys you never know what'll happen. Im not very impressed with IBM either, and Acer is good but if you want qualtiy go for HP, cant go wrong with it... i hvae had a zt for over 3 years and till now all ive had to do is change the HDD and thats also rare.

Neither of them... choose a SONY or an ASUS... Toshiba isn't bad either.

I have an ASUS M6N for two years now without any kind kind of failures and i just recently bought a Sony Vaio that has been passing all the tests with bright flying colours...

Brand name shouldn't be the determining factor in buying notebooks. Pay more attention to the specs and after-market support. Today, I wouldn't even touch anything that isn't "Centrino Duo." I prefer those that come with Low Voltage Core 2 Duo CPU (newer "Merom" parts) and has least 1 GB of system memory (2GB would be really nice though).

By the way, the "Centrino" name is just Intel smart marketing at its best, ensuring that everybody will be buying 3 Intel silicons instead of 1.
