You mean you backed up the phonebook to the computer using PC suite, and after updating not able to restore it back? I presume so.
Try cleaning the fastport golden contacts. clean the small pins of SE usb data cable and also the golden contacts on the phone one by one with a sharp wodden toothpick. Now try connecting the phone to the PC and see if it is detecting & restoring. if not working.
